2018 UAB Project Management Certificate Course Offerings

Recognizing the need for those managing projects to be trained and certified in the Project Management Institute Body of Knowledge (PMBOK®), the UAB Collat School of Business and the Project Management Institute (PMI), Central Alabama Chapter, have teamed together to offer the Project Management Certificate Course. This course meets the education requirements needed to sit for the CAPM and PMP exams.

In today’s competitive world the effective execution of value-adding business processes and related projects is imperative. The UAB Project Management Certificate Course’s approach provides the content and rigor of a graduate level academic course and practicality provided by practicing project managers.

This popular course has been a long standing offering by the UAB Department of Management, Information Systems and Quantitative Methods and is now offered several times a year. The Project Management Certificate Course provides a total of 36 contact hours of combined face to face and online instruction.

2018 Offerings: May 4th - May 25th (four Fridays), 9 am - 3 pm & September 14th - October 5th (four Fridays), 9 am - 3 pm. 

 

The Certification Magazine's annual survey reports that project managers with a PMP certification earn an average base salary of $129,630.

 

What this Project Management Certificate Course Covers
The Project Management Certificate Course includes training in the PMI Body of Knowledge (PMBOK®) with instruction and exercises covering the project management knowledge areas and process groups with problem and project solution exercises and examples. The course provides instruction and exercises in the use of the Microsoft Project software tool. Also included is payment of a participant's membership in the Project Management Institute including the PMI Central Alabama Chapter for one year.

Course Outline

  • Day 1: Introduction to Project Mangement, Process Groups, Knowledge Areas and Integration Management
  • Day 2: Scope, Time and Cost Management
  • Day 3: Quality, HR, Stakeholder and Communications Management
  • Day 4: Risk, Procurement, Earned Value Management and Microsoft Project

Who Should Attend
The course is designed for those who are looking to enter or advance in the project management profession. You should expect to not only gain a deeper understanding of the project management lifecycle, but also be able to put into practice the competencies needed to balance competing demands and communicate with diverse stakeholders. Ideally, you should have some prior relevant education or work experience, as well as a desire to learn.
