Due to the current realities with COVID 19, we are going to try something new with our chapter meetings. We are going to be hosting a virtual meeting each month via WebEx. The meetings will continue to be on the third Tuesday from 11:30 AM until 12:30 PM. The next meeting will be August 18th. We ask that you continue to register via our website (pmicac.org) and the cutoff will be Friday August 14th. Everyone who registers will receive an email before the meeting with the login information as well as the PDU claim code. Per the PMI code of ethics each individual is responsible for only claiming the PDUs to which you are entitled. Obviously this is a new process for us so I ask everyone's patience and cooperation if there are any hiccups. Feel free to email any questions to Ray Crocker, MBA, PMP.
Speaker: David Mantica
Topic: Business Analysis/Analyst (BA): Is it a Role or is it a Skill
The Agile evangelists would say it is a skill the entire team needs. The IIBA would say it is a role that needs to grow in order for companies to gain competitive advantage with their technology deployments and internal automation. PMI (the Project Management Institute) has also spoken on this topic. Their position based on the certification they developed (PMI-PBA) is it is a skill a successful project manager should add to their tool kit of skills and techniques. Moreover, how does the function of Product Ownership (in the Scrum Framework) and the recent push of IC Agile to start talking about SDLC Product Managers (new certification just launched ICP-PDM).
What can be factually attested to is the following; as SDLC practitioner positions like developers, testers and architects were being outsource, larger enterprise organizations dependent on building software and systems for competitive advantage have been hiring Business Analysts. Just look at Indeed or Dice or Monster and see which tech jobs are HOT and Business Analyst will be in the list.
This presentation will break out the current trends in the software development industry and where BA is seen as skill and were it is being built out as a role. From there we will take a look at the pros and cons of each view and where things may end up, providing you critical information as you plan your career growth goals for 2020 and beyond.
