In today’s work environment where PMs are expected to drive outcomes related to agility, speed, and lowering costs, what are the challenges and opportunities in transitioning, participating, and leading in PMO matrixed organizations? How can PMs act as a model of teamwork across PMOs, which actively champions progress toward an adaptable, high-performing matrix organization.
Bio: Irene Catanese is currently in the Project Management Office at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois. In this role, Irene is involved in the management of the IT and Business stakeholders overseeing the successful delivery of highly complex enterprise programs for Claims, Provider & Network, and Clinical Operations. The Project Management Office provides high level vision, strategy and detailed requirements for the programs or projects, aligns and synchronizes teams, manages dependencies among stakeholders’ entities, ensures the right resources are deployed for successful capability delivery, and drives the end to end delivery from Planning through initiative closure.
Irene has worked on a multitude of business transformation and technology projects in the areas of Finance, Information Technology, Human Resources, and Procurement across many verticals including Financial Services, Property and Casualty Insurance, Healthcare, and Consumer Packaged Goods. Irene lends a consulting perspective and has led transformation project for clients including Aon, UBS Warburg, Royal Bank of Scotland, CNA Insurance, and Chicago Department of Public Health.
She holds her Project Management Professional (PMP) since 2012 and is a member of the PMI Chicagoland Chapter. In addition to her work experience, she has a Bachelor's of Science in Accounting from University of Illinois at Chicago and a Masters Business Administration in Finance and Economics from Loyola University Chicago and is currently pursuing a Certificate in Project Management Strategy at the University of Chicago / Graham School of Business.
